GENERAL INFORMATION
Dr. Gitoho is a seasoned professional with extensive experience and competencies in various fields
In the area of Leadership and Management, Dr. Gitoho has over 30 years’ experience in HR, leadership, governance, and organizational development, with leadership roles in HR, operations, quality and standards, strategy, and business development. Her multisectoral working experience spans across the government, public, private, international NGO, hospitality, consultancy, and academia sectors. Notable employers include the Government of Kenya, Kenya National Library Services, Green Corner & Twigs Restaurants, ICRAF, and The Nairobi Hospital..
In the training and facilitation arena, she has trained in numerous countries including Burundi, Cameroon, DRC, Dubai, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, Uganda, Tanzania, Turkey, Zanzibar and Zambia. A Certified trainer with AWARD, MSH, AMSCO, CHRM, CCG, and PTAK. Her versatility extends to training in basic Kenya Sign Language (KSL) and management programs aimed at inclusivity in developing leadership competence, improving processes, and systems.
In the academic space her contribution includes publishing papers in transformational, transactional and Values Based leadership as well as lecturing at the United States International University in Africa (USIU-A). She holds a DBA in Leadership and Organizational Change, an MBA in Strategic Management, a BA in Public Administration, a Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management, and Industrial Relation. She is a Certified Public Secretary of Kenya, a Certified MBTI Practitioner in Africa, and a Certified Professional Mediator.
She is a fellow at the Institute of Human Resource Management of Kenya and the Kenya Institute of Management, and member of various professional bodies including the Professional Trainers of Kenya and the Institute of Directors. She has held various board roles and is currently a member of the Muranga County Budget and Economic Council, has served on councils of IPM (K) now IHRM and KIM, KEBS HR Technical Committee, Board of Management and Board of Trustees of Starehe Girls Centre.
As a Rotarian, she has served in various capacities in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, and internationally as Rotary Representative to UN-HABITAT, UNESCO, and currently Rotary International Representative to UNEP.
She is the author of the book "HR Practice: A Rear View with Salome Gitoho”. Where she tells stories of various HR practices, joys, challenges, and lessons learnt as a HR practitioner and in hindsight; what she would do today. A practical case study for managerial and leadership lessons at the workplace.
